Hope everyone already upgraded his notebook to the latest and greatest Microsoft OS - Windows 7.

If you have Windows 7 64bit you may have encountered into the same issue like I did - in Windows 7 the Biometric Device does not work with the drivers from Dell Website.
Now if you have Dell XPS M1330 with the fingerprint reader the TouchChip you might realised that the installation of Windows Vista Drivers and software from the Dell website:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WV64&catid=-1&dateid=-1&impid=-1&osl=EN&typeid=-1&formatid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=XPS_M1330&hidos=WLH&hidlang=en&TabIndex=&scanSupported=True&scanConsent=False

Go under the section - Security. The software which might be found there is:

UPEK TouchStrip Reader

Release Date:10/22/2008
Version:5.6.2.3705, A00
Download Type:Application
Other Versions
File Format:Hard Drive
File Size:6 MB

and the Driver:

UPEK TouchStrip Reader<< return to results

Release Date:12/14/2007
Version:1.9.2.74, A02
Download Type:Driver
File Format:Hard Drive
File Size:6 MB

does not work in Windows 7 - at least when you install the UPEK software it does not recognize it. So I went to the UPEK website downloaded the:

http://www.upek.com/support/downloads/drivers/windows.asp

Contains legacy driver v155 signed for Windows7.
Full driver package including installation of drivers and merge modules for older systems and for W7 (legacy mode) - no WinBio. WinBio W7 driver is available in a separate
package.

Release date: 8/21/2009
Revision: 2.18
Filename: 2.18_package.zip
File size: 4908810 bytes
Platform(s): Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista 64bit, Windows server 2003, Windows Server 2003 64bit, Windows XP 64bit, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 64bit, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit

now the Software - the UPEK Protector Suite recognize the driver and the device is working now.

P.S: it looks like the 5.6 is the currect version for the 64bit. The 5.8 on the UPEK website is for 32bit.
